I also do think Chinese penetration into the US and West generally is deeper than the other way around, I know there is a joke hiding in there but I am not looking.
I’d say it’s likely, because so much of our (US) infrastructure is run on a shoe-string budget and nobody is really ever held accountable for breaches; whereas I imagine in China heads would roll if, say, a foreign actor shut down the power grid.
I was referring specifically to penetration, if you are in labs at all in the West it is common to see a few Chinese placements. They are hard workers, diligent, putting in long hours, often antisocial hours when other people choose not to be there.

Yes, the US is a much more open society in that way.
