This is a great talk, but it’s ignoring the real issue in that it would need to be “in-line”, which is not anywhere near possible. They sort of address that, but are talking about the cyphers themselves mostly.

I think we’ve reached the cusp where we can exchange new derivative keys on the fly per request without making too much of a dent in speed, but that comes with all kinds of tradeoffs on session length and convenience I suppose.

Edit: I guess there is another eventuality where governments just go and farm public keys and use them against targeted traffic. Not a good way to beat that right now.

Honestly, that’s how the codec game works. Most people or software don’t adopt until after the successor is in place. It’s more about the software side lagging to adopt though. Nvidia just got AV1 into their hardware processing pipeline in the last 2 years. I think AMD is even more recent than that.

“The Year Of Linux on Desktops”. Been hearing this for decades, but it might actually be happening. What I’m feeling now is the same thing I felt when Mozilla originally split Firefox out, and made the first real competition to corporate browsers as a free product. People don’t want all this bullshit, and want to retain control over the machines they are working on. Seems a lot more people are interested in FOSS environments now just to avoid all the other BS they hate getting shoveled at them.
