I’ve always wanted to talk about how weird it was scrolling through reddit and then suddenly seeing myself on the front page. I was banned from reddit for talking about politics (I am anti trump) on the air force reddit so I wasn’t even able to comment on a post about me.

For some backstory, I was returning from a Halloween cruise and it was the only clean shirt I had left (I was planning on wearing it during the cruise as there were no children allowed on the cruise and with the theme I thought it would get a few laughs or at least start a conversation). I never did though and doing laundry on a cruise was quite expensive (I think 50 dollars per load or something like that). I tried to hide the shirt as best I could throughout the day as I do think it was slightly inappropriate to wear in a public setting.

For the record, I love all the comments roasting me and I laughed all fucking day reading them!

Anyways, I have always wanted to publicly talk about this and in my search for reddit alternatives I found lemmy so here we are. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

    LPT. When being forced to wear shirts with questionable graphics, turn them inside out.

      Story time: I had to give a presentation on a group project at university. I was wearing a shirt with a fist silhouette on it, which you could have mistaken as a symbol of a political movement, had there not been the text “nothing says I love you quite like fisting”. Over lunch I had to go home, ~6km, on a bicycle, in the summer, on short notice, because of the plumber being in the house. So I was sweating like fuck and changed shirts. For some reason our team got summoned up to the front again later and my shirt read “I have 5 stars on youporn” with five stars over it. This was in front of 5 professors, ~10 post docs and university employees and ~80 students. On my way out from the cafeteria I greeted the hot blonde from engineering, who looked like she could be an adult content actress, and she laughed the cutest snort-laugh in a shockingly deep voice I’ve ever heard. Most of the profs “loved” me by the way; three of them competed over getting me into their projects and supervising my master thesis.

          It wasn’t really meant as a compliment. She usually looked like she was coming straight from the set of a porn movie. But I think, like me, she wasn’t giving a fuck either. She was good at what she did and the right hand of the head of the engineering faculty. Don’t judge a book by its cover, I guess?

    I know this is Lemmy and Reddit is bad etc., but FYI when you get banned from one subreddit by its mods, it doesn’t ban you from the entirety of Reddit. You could comment if you wanted.

      I was temp banned a few times from the air force reddit and then I think they reported it to the admins because I had a perma ban. I tried making another account and it shortly got banned as well. It’s definitely a site wide ban.

      The only thing I can think of is if he had multiple accounts and went into the banned sub on a different account. That gets you banned totally.

      So originally she was right next to me at a charging station that faced the wall. I sat next to her because I was waiting for her to get up and leave so i could sit and face the wall and charge my phone AND be more comfortable reading my book. She kinda put her head down on the table and started snoring so loudly, it was hilarious. I looked around a bit at a few people next to me and we were all kinda laughing at it. She eventually got up and sat down somewhere else and I didn’t notice because I was too into my book at the time I guess.

    I drew a comic of myself once that got turned into a meme. So I totally get how surreal it is to be scrolling through the front page of reddit and unexpectedly seeing a picture of yourself. Although mine was certainly under more pleasant circumstances.

    In any case you seem to have a positive outlook on the whole thing, which is great.

    Were you banned from the AF subreddit or from reddit completely? If so I don’t see how complaining about trump would get you banned from reddit.

      I think it was more of a ‘i got temp banned so many times it eventually became a permaban’
